The South Penrith community is such a vibrant and active community and Southlands Shopping Centre is very proud of the role we play in supporting our local sporting champions.

Jess Fox

Jess Fox is a Penrith local and has been a much loved part of the Southlands family since 2012.

Jess is a world class slalom canoeist who has been competing on an international stage since 2006 and has achieved a list of accolades and acclaim in her sport many athletes could only dream of. She is the most successful paddler (male or female) in history.

In June 2024, Jess became the first athlete to win three individual gold medals over a single weekend at an ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup, claiming the win in the C1, K1 and Kayak Cross events. The Krakow World Cup, which was the final event before the 2024 Paris Olympics, saw Jess surpass an incredible milestone of 50 individual World Cup gold medals, finishing the weekend at #51.

In her fourth Olympic Games appearance in Paris 2024, Jess won a Gold Medal in the canoe (C1W) and in the kayaking (K1W) singles. These recent achievements adding to her spectacular tally of a previous Olympic Gold and Bronze Medals (Tokyo 2020), Bronze Medal (Rio 2016) and Silver Medal (London 2012).

Jess is one of the most humble and inspirational people you could ever wish to meet.

Jess has been a much loved part of the Southlands team since 2012 and we are thrilled to continue supporting her achieve her dreams.

Mavrik Geyer

Mav Geyer has become a household name in Penrith, deeply ingrained in the local community. Having started as a junior player, he embarked on his journey with the Panthers as a teenager, progressing through the ranks from the club’s Harold Matthews and SG Ball teams to Jersey Flegg and NSW Cup. Now, he has solidified his place with a coveted NRL top 30 contract. Mav’s NRL debut on March 28th, 2024, against the Roosters was a momentous occasion, witnessed by numerous friends and family members who cheered him on with pride.

A beloved figure in South Penrith, Mav’s roots run deep, having even held his first job at Woolworths, Southlands. Often spotted enjoying breakfast at Fibonacci’s or going about his daily tasks, he remains connected to the community that has supported him throughout his journey.

As a vital member of the Southlands team, Mav’s presence is a source of pride and excitement for all involved. His dedication and talent continue to inspire those around him, making him a cherished asset both on and off the field.
